Singing For Peace

Twenty seven years ago while employed by Westminster Presbyterian Church here in town I was approached by Wesley Memorial to join forces in a Bible School venture. Wesley's Music Director at the time was Sylvia Milner and together we came up with the theme: peacemaking. After searching the resources of the major publishing houses and finding nothing I decided to write the curriculum myself. It was a big job but very personally fulfilling. I poured over Biblical texts and commentaries, relying heavily on my New Testament professor Walter Wink and Old Testament Professor Walter Brueggemann. I became convinced that if I were to care about anything it would be finding ways for people to come together around Shalom. The Bible School went very well. Several other churches in town as well as in Atlanta have used the curriculum since then.
